I Have a Dream

I Have a Dream

'Inspiring Dreams, Enabling Futures' - through wrap-around education support, life skills development and interest-focused opportunities.

Nationwide

I Have a Dream is a charity focused on inspiring dreams and enabling futures for Tamariki (children) and Rangatahi (youth). Program participants (Dreamers) are supported and mentored by Navigators across their time at school and beyond to year 15, helping connect them to ongoing education and employment opportunities.

Navigators come from all walks of life and backgrounds and work in partnership with schools, whānau and other people in the support networks of Dreamers to help see each child reach their full potential.

Every $1 invested in I Have a Dream, results in $3.60 being returned to New Zealand in Social Investment.

More about us

I Have a Dream inspires dreams and enables futures through education and opportunities. Dreamers (programme participants) each have a long term Navigator working in partnership with schools, whānau and the community to help them their full potential.

Designing a bright future for himself  17 February 2025

Posted by: Scott Gilmour

Meet Awatea Poutai, Awatea Poutai, a Dreamer who has been with the I Have a Dream programme for 6 years, and this year is serving as the Head Boy of Tikipunga High School alongside fellow Dreamer Sosefina Tiamaa as Head Girl.

Now in Year 13, Awatea has been enrolled in I Have a Dream since Year 6, attending hundreds of after school programmes and receiving support and encouragement from Navigators both in and out of the classroom, helping him to build his confidence and set his sights on a career path that inspires and excites him.

He has also just been awarded a First Foundation Scholarship and has plans to study at Otago Polytechnic to fulfill his dream of becoming a Product Designer.

Awatea said “I Have a Dream has given me many opportunities by taking me out on trips and making many connections for me so that I have more branches, more opportunities to go off.”
