Islands for the Future of Humanity works to prepare New Zealand for global catastrophes through research and public education.
Nationwide
Islands for the Future of Humanity recognises that the likelihood of global catastrophe is rising. This is due to decades of increasing global interdependency, coupled with progressive instability, and fresh climate and geopolitical tensions.
We are concerned that New Zealand is not prepared to ride out the coming storm, whether it takes the form of nuclear war, an extreme pandemic, volcanic super-eruption, solar storm, or technological catastrophe. We are the last bus stop on the global supply chain, and our food, energy, transport, and communications systems are at risk.
Our previous NZCat project produced a detailed report on these issues, with practical recommendations for risk governance and mitigation.

We produce a lot of scientific and technical evidence on these risks and resilience options, but we also want to disseminate this information to all of society. This means translating our work into blogs, communicating with journalists, at public meetings, and through online events.

All of this engagement and dissemination takes time and resources, and we are calling for the kindness of concerned New Zealanders to support our mission to keep sharing this information and to build an Aotearoa New Zealand genuinely resilient to global events.
ISLANDS FOR THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY is a non-partisan collaboration. We develop and disseminate resilience options to help NZ weather global catastrophes. We act to inform and assist communities in achieving societal and long-term resilience to major risks.
