Funding desperately needed to continue providing supports for families of disabled children in Palmerston North
Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui
In 2004 we fostered a baby boy with sever disabilities. He is the youngest of our 5 children. My husband and I struggled to find supports and services that Ryan required to help with every day life.
In 2020 our youngest daughter gave birth to identical twins. Sadly one of the two little girls didn't survive, the other was left with cerebral palsy. We did not want our granddaughter to miss out as Ryan had. So we created the Little Stars Centre, a place where families feel supported and have equitable access to professional therapy their children require to reach their full potential.
Our motto is: Whole child, Whole family, Whole life.
Little Stars is an early intervention therapy centre for children with physical and intellectual challenges. Little stars was created in response to our son and granddaughter having limited access to the appropriate level of services.
Little Stars 2025 Update 3 April 2025
The Little Stars center has been a huge success!
We've been hard at work, helping, supporting, teaching and caring for our children and their whanou, and wanted to fill you in on whats been going on.
We've moved to a new, bigger building, so we can facilitate for more children, we've hired new people to help our current Occupational Therapist, both other OT's and IT/Admin's so we can provide more support for more people!
We've just put in a Dark Room for our Vision and Vestibular Integrated Programmes, to help people with physical and visual challenges. This darker space helps stimulate vestibular and visual systems, in a safe location, with minimal other distracting input, to help our children with physical and visual control difficulties.
Its been a huge success and we're looking forward to doing more in this area, hopefully on a larger scale soon, with bigger swings (like the FlyMax Boat Tree Swing) so we can have more options for therapy with our children.
Thanks for all your help so far, we're going to continue to do our best to help these families and their children with physical and intellectual challenges, grow, learn, and live Whole Lives!
