Mothers Helpers works with mums at-risk or suffering with Postnatal Depression: preventing illness, reducing severity, minimizing effects
Auckland
We are fundraising for a Pilot Programme on Waiheke Island providing:
* A One-Hour Assessment with a Registered Nurse
* Monthly Peer Support and Goal-Setting/Coaching towards recovery
* Childcare/Housework relief for those with no family support so mum can get a break or some sleep
This Pilot Programme will be used to access funds to provide our service to Auckland and eventually Nationwide.
We have testimonials of mothers who would not have been diagnosed or understood their illness without Mothers Helpers picking up that they were at-risk and assessing for Depression. One mother recently tearfully exclaimed that if it wasn't for Mothers Helpers, she fears she may not be alive today.
Update for 09/09/2013 9 September 2013
This fundraiser will go to the $5000 project on Waiheke Island as a Pilot Programme to be used elsewhere around New Zealand. Our thoughts go out to the family from Invercargill who have experienced the result of poorly supported Perinatal Mental Health with a tragic result: http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/9127120/Babys-father-blames-hospital http://www.3news.co.nz/Better-care-needed-for-new-mothers/tabid/309/articleID/312149/Default.aspx
