Great local support has seen $275,000 raised towards a covered pool for Motueka. This really helps when approaching major funders.
Nelson / Tasman
After years of hopes and hurdles, Motueka is now in the position to get its very own indoor community swimming pool. Thanks to thinking outside the square, work is now under way to create an affordable, good-quality pool facility for Motueka. The Motueka High School swimming pool will be enclosed, with added changing rooms for the general public, a pool for young learner swimmers created and with Lions and Lionesses funding a heated therapeutic pool built.
This will allow the pool to be used for at least half of the year - and ultimately heated for even longer use as a further development. The therapeutic pool will be available for year-round use. An independent feasibility study, funded by the Lotteries Commission, has been completed and signed off by the school, GSM and the Motueka swimming club, confirming the viability and design concept of the pool.
The Motueka Community Swimming Pool Committee runs under the umbrella of Goods Sports Motueka, a registered charity. All donations are tax deductible if a receipt is requested.

There is now $210,000 on deposit with the bank and another $54,000 promised from local businesses to assist with construction. Major funders (Rata, Lotteries) have connected with our project. They understand the community need, appreciate the great local support but are looking for regional support before committing funds. We are talking with Tasman District Council on the form that this can take.
