Great local support has seen over $652,000 raised towards a covered pool for Motueka. This support helps when approaching major funders.
Nelson / Tasman
The need for covered and heated swimming facilities in Motueka has been identified for decades. A 2021 proposal was included in the TDC 2021-2031 Long Term Plan. The ensuing 2022 Feasibility Study identified the 2021 proposal as too small for the future needs of our growing community and recommended a facility with twice the water space. This includes a 25m lane pool, a hydrotherapy pool, a learn to swim pool, a spa pool and a toddler pool. The cost has been estimated at $20m. The major funding will come from TDC with up to 33% from “the community” which includes the $652,000 already raised plus Lions, Lionesses, Rotary. Lotteries, Rata, business’ and philanthropic donors.
The committee is working with TDC on design to ensure the facility suits the community needs and is achievable financially. The project will include ramps for entry to pools, heat pumps for heating pools, heat recovery air handling systems and solar panels to assist with power.
Being included in the Draft LTP does not guarantee it will stay in the plan. Demonstrating community support through submissions is vitally important, particularly from organisations associated with swimming, health and fitness within the Motueka community.
Submissions closed in April and we are very thankful for all of the positive support we have received. We hope to hear more in late June. In the meantime, keep donating - we really appreciate all donations received as our community contribution amount needs us all to work together.
The Motueka Community Swimming Pool Committee runs under the umbrella of Goods Sports Motueka, a registered charity. All donations are tax deductible if a receipt is requested.

There is now $210,000 on deposit with the bank and another $54,000 promised from local businesses to assist with construction. Major funders (Rata, Lotteries) have connected with our project. They understand the community need, appreciate the great local support but are looking for regional support before committing funds. We are talking with Tasman District Council on the form that this can take.
Kaye on behalf of our Motueka Pool fundraising committee I want to say thank you so very much for your amazing donation of $1,000.00. Every cent counts as we work towards raising the necessary community funding for our pool. We are asking everyone to make a submission in writing to the TDC in writing - supporting the building of the pool Submssions open in March and close in April. Again - thanks so much. Sue

Good morning Mark - what a lovely birthday present for Peter and a bonus for the swimming pool fund raising. To date we have $240,000 in Term Investments with NBS Motueka and we are very grateful for your donation. Sue (Treasurer)
Thank you so much for your generous donation. The wheels of progress turn slowly but we are getting there and Motueka will have an amazing facility - we need to keep the young children water savvy and we can do that when we have a pool and we need to provide a Therapeutic pool for those who need it. Thanks again.
