More about us

Everyday gifted young New Zealanders' are missing opportunities to realise their full potential. We want to provide those opportunities with access to programmes that understand them, recognition of their talents, and support for the networks who surrounding them.

We want to see a future New Zealand doing extraordinary things.

The New Zealand Centre for Gifted Education provides a number of services to achieve this:

SMALL POPPIES - Big things often have small beginnings.

Small Poppies is a learning programme for gifted 2-6 year olds. A specialist teacher facilitates challenging, child-centred learning experiences, designed to stimulate inquiring and creative young minds. Children attend Small Poppies with a parent or caregiver, which provides an immediate shared learning opportunity and support network.

MIND PLUS - Where like-minds grow together

MindPlus allows 7-13 year old intellectually and creatively gifted children to engage and interact in rigorous and in-depth learning with liked-minded peers. Working with a specialist teacher children explore what it means to be gifted, expand their minds, pursue their passions and develop their talents.

GIFTED ONLINE - A space where I can connect

Gifted Online uses technology to connect gifted students with each other, with specialist teachers and with challenging and engaging learning opportunities. Gifted Online includes a variety of options including a one-day programme equivalent and specific talent development programmes. GO Day, GO Sessions and GO Talent (the one-day programme equivalent) include independent learning and online chats between students and their teacher. The talent development programmes include a combination of face-to-face and online learning.

CONSULTANCY SERVICES -Sharing what works

The Consultancy Services provide advisory, learning, practical and resourcing assistance to those who support gifted children. These services help teachers, parents and other adults to better understand giftedness and support children at home or at school.

RESOURCE BASE - As knowledge increases, wonder deepens

Our Resource Base specialises in resources to support teaching and parenting gifted children, curriculum design for gifted and talented programmes, and academic study in gifted education.
