To establish and maintain a volunteer emergency response and rescue service based in Hutt City
Wellington
The Hutt City Emergency Response Team (HCERT) is the Lower Hutt's volunteer rescue response team. We are also a nationally deployable Civil Defence response team (NZRT18) Based in Hutt City, the team responds to Civil Defence emergencies and other incidents on request. We work closely with Wellington’s local authorities and New Zealand's professional emergency services including Fire, Police and Ambulance services. The team is highly mobile and has a cache of readily accessible rescue resources to help assist our community in time of need. Our capability includes Incident Management, General Rescue, USAR CAT-1R, Flood and Storm Response and Technical Swift-water Rescue.
We train Monday evenings on a fortnightly basis. Periodically training is also conducted during the weekends in all types of conditions so it's a commitment not to be taken lightly.
For more information about the team and please visit the Hutt City Council's website or the National Emergency Management agency(NEMA) website.
Our Life Saving Equipments have been stolen. 2 October 2023
Dear Hutt City Community,
Unfortunately last night NZRT18 base was broken into and a large amount of gear was stolen .
Milwaukee and Makita power tools and batteries, chargers, radios, lights, generators, flood suits, and LIFE SAVING equipment have all been taken.
As a team of volunteers who's aim is to assist the Hutt community during their time of need and who deployed teams during Cyclone Gabrielle earlier this year, this is incredibly sad and leaves us unable to deploy.
Please spread the word and keep and eye out for anything equipment being offered online.
We would appreciate any assistance in spending the word to other pages. If anyone saw anything suspicious near our base, at the entry to Percys Reserve on the evening of Saturday 30th/early Sunday 1st October please let us know so we can pass this to the Police
Yours sincerely
The team at NZRT18.
