More about us

The New Zealand Warbirds Association is an umbrella body dedicated to the restoration, preservation and operation of service aircraft in full flying condition. Nationwide, we are a vitally alive family of involved participants who provide the wide range of skills and support necessary to maintain and operate these classic aircraft.

Warbirds was originally conceived in 1978 to preserve ex-RNZAF service aircraft only but this has been expanded by the successful introduction of service aircraft from all over the world including Russian, German and Chinese types. British and American aircraft never seen in service here also figure prominently. Everything from biplanes to jet fighters!

Use of funds

Aircraft don't get old, they get maintained. Some components last for ever, some others such as engines have a limited life. Funds raised are used to keep the various Warbirds maintained to the highest of standards so that New Zealanders can continue to enjoy airshow displays of important items from our history.

You may donate to the general fund, or to a particular aeroplane or activity. Contact the NZ Warbirds for details.

A rushed visit and Spitfire ride on April 12 2020 (due to limited time in NZ) did not afford me the luxury of the offered relaxed comradery displayed by the volunteers associated with my flight. I have since wished I'd remained in the area for the airshow and more, even though the CV-19 would have made it impossible. Were I based in NZ there is no doubt that I would try to also volunteer time to help preserve these wonderful aircraft. Please accept again my thanks and this small donation.
