Volunteering Conservation Wildlife

When the forest flourishes the people flourishes. General public are encouraged to use Otanewainuku for recreation using its walking tracks including the short loop walk, the mountain top lookout walk & waterfall hike. The forest is family oriented with a visitor information shelter, toilets, & car park - with security provided by a volunteer roster on weekends. This directly promotes healthy, physically active communities.

Over 35 school classes visited over past 2 years. Guided class tours through the forest. OKT website hosts children’s artwork of their visits into the forest.

BoP Polytech run a variety of training activities such as “Foliar Browse Index” in the forest.

Home to many types of native bird, including the kokako, North Island brown kiwi, robin, whitehead and tomtit. General public are encouraged to use Otanewainuku for recreation using its walking tracks including the short loop walk, the mountain top lookout walk & waterfall hike. The forest is family oriented with a visitor information shelter, toilets, & car park - with security provided by a volunteer roster on weekends. This directly promotes healthy, physically active communities. Dogs are banned as they can kill kiwi, even on a leash.
