When the forest flourishes the people flourishes. General public are encouraged to use Otanewainuku for recreation using its walking tracks including the short loop walk, the mountain top lookout walk & waterfall hike. The forest is family oriented with a visitor information shelter, toilets, & car park - with security provided by a volunteer roster on weekends. This directly promotes healthy, physically active communities.

Over 35 school classes visited over past 2 years. Guided class tours through the forest. OKT website hosts children’s artwork of their visits into the forest.

BoP Polytech run a variety of training activities such as “Foliar Browse Index” in the forest.
