Protecting Ōmaha's special shorebirds for future generations.
Omaha, Auckland
Our vision is that Ōmaha Shorebird Sanctuary is a safe place for shorebirds to nest, rest and feed. Right now, we are failing, and the NZ dotterel | Tūturiwhatu and Oystercatcher | Torea pango who live right here are not surviving. Two key threats can be managed. Cats enter the sanctuary to hunt at night time, taking adults, chicks and eggs. Visitor pressure during the summer breeding season are a constant disturbance.
Your support helps us gather data, raise awareness, inform visitors, and advocate to Auckland Council and Rodney Local Board for better management of this special local park.
We work to make Ōmaha Shorebird Sanctuary and Whangateau Harbour a safe place for shorebirds to feed, rest, roost and breed undisturbed.
