Orton Bradley Park Storm Restoration
Charteris Bay, Canterbury
On Monday and Tuesday, February 18th, 2026, Orton Bradley Park was devastated by a storm which destroyed walking and biking tracks, predator traps, fences, bridges and picnic areas. As the clean up continues we are aware of the massive job still ahead of us to restore environments, infrastructure and future proof against similar events. Over two days, 300mm of rain fell in an area normally receiving 700-900mm annually cutting the area off. This overwhelmed the entire catchment of Te Wharau Stream creating massive slips and washing away everything in its path. As a charitable Trust, we need your help; to fund the heavy machinery required to clear the slips and tracks; replace the bridges and hundreds of predator traps; to expand riparian planting to create a protective barrier and stabilize banks, and much more.
A charitable trust we have over 25km of walking and biking tracks, adventure playground, rhododendron gardens, historic buildings, picnic and camping sites. Also a strong predator and pest control programme combined with large native and exotic planting sites.
