The Biology Department of Paraparaumu College are taking 26 students on a field trip of a life time! We are travelling to Calakmul Biosphere Reserve and Akumai coral reef (in Mexico) to carry out various types of Biological sampling and conservation work. The types of species we will be monitoring are sea turtles, bats, jaguars, butterflies, frogs and spider monkeys. We will be working with international scientists, helping to collect data for publications and to aid in conservation funding for the area.
Paraparaumu College is a thriving community of learners located at Paraparaumu on the Kapiti Coast, 45 minutes’ drive (or train-ride) north of Wellington City. The majority of us live in the local area of Paraparaumu, Paraparaumu Beach, Otaihanga, Waikanae and Pekapeka.
We are a co-educational secondary school for students from Years 9 to 13. For the purposes of Ministry of Education funding Paraparaumu College is graded within decile 8, but our community is drawn from the whole range of Kapiti’s socio-economic groups, reflecting New Zealand as a whole.
