  Auckland Our History

The Passchendaele Society is raising money for the The New Zealand Memorial Garden, after being asked by WW100, the Government organization set up to remember those who died in World War One.

Work has already begun on the Passchendaele Memorial Gardens, near the Zonnebeke Chateau in Belgium.

100% of your donations will go towards the construction of our memorial garden. Boffa Miskell, the NZ design company of the New Zealand Garden has given $15,000 worth of its time pro bono and the Passchendaele Society has put in $7500 of its own funds.

My father William Patrick Hartstonge and three of his four brothers served in the First World War. Two of his brothers were killed. John Joseph Hartstonge was killed at Passchendaele on 12/10/17; his body was never found and his name is recorded on the Tyne Cot Memorial. His brother Jeremiah was killed on 1/10/1918, just a few days before the Armistice.
