PAWS Rescue/Rehab (2002)

With your help, PAWS Rescue takes the dogs & livestock that need veterinary, behaviourial or physical rehabilitation & Intensive Cares

Hawke's Bay

Firstly, when someone cares enough to ask us to help or calling us in on abuse or injury cases, they value the animals life, no matter what species it is. These lovely people don't see a dollar sign, they see a helpless entity needing love and kindness.

As soon as we say yes to helping, then we accept that there will be costs, sometimes extreme. Ginny Taft decides who comes in and these costs are not a priority, it's only ever based on urgency, immediate risk and/or wellbeing.

$3000.oo (Will cover almost any medical bill as our vets are amazing at cutting costs without compromising care)

It doesn't matter if the rescue is a dog, hawk, sheep or goat. If they are willing to fight for survival then we will fight with them. Once they've survived, we are not going to end their life just because society says they only have a certain value.

Please Note

(We always get our vets to assess whether they can live a relatively normal life, that we are not prolonging suffering and that we aren't setting up a family for expensive vet bills after they are adopted)

By accepting the rescue, we are accepting that we are willing to do whatever it takes to help. If we aren't willing to do that, then we should have said NO to helping. This is where generous people like you make our work possible.

Providing complete medical care, Physical Rehabilitation (from learning to walk after brain injury, to recovery from broken limbs and more), Behavioural Rehabilitation, and teaching the dogs that humans can be trusted.

Prior to homing, we ensure all the dogs are safe in the community so we are not passing problems onto owners. Each dog is; Vaccinated, Neutered, Micro-chipped and Registered.

Follow up and lifetime support is on hand for all families adopting through us. Our adoption fee is only $250.00 so we need support from the public to help with the Rehabilitation of these dogs, which costs on average $400.00 per dog over and above neutering and vaccinations, registration and chipping.

We are also desperate for sponsors for food, leads, collars and advertising, so more of these special dogs can find their way to us

More about us

PAWS Rescue NZ is about offering a safe Haven to dogs and livestock, such as goats, lambs. Sheep and chickens.

Having all these rescues is not cheap. We are currently leasing 7 acres and trying to get it upto a point where we have shelters for livestock and areas for dogs to play in.

We specialise in animals with severe illness, injury, deformities, or are emaciated, unweaned and/or have behaviour problems that would see them put to sleep elsewhere.

We actively assist with dogs from families with domestic violence issues, and are happy to give advice and follow up on cases of abuse. Once the rescue has completed their rehabilitation, they then go into foster homes to make room for the next baby needing our help. We don't have a limit on time, our longest case was two years, but she recently was adopted and is now living in Waikanae.

Although we are based in Hastings, we take in animals from around the country and we help other rescues when they don't have the room, experience or facilities.

With all our dogs being fostered we know that all our dogs have manners, basic obedience and know how to behave in a home, so they will not create a challenge for their new family.

PAWS is also working with international organisations to produce the first ever "Ethical Standards of Care for Rescues"
