Other Equality

We're fundraising so we can stage the 2015 Plain English Awards on 19 November. The Awards aim to improve government and business documents so that all New Zealanders can understand them. They also raise public awareness of the need for, and benefits of, plain English. The Awards create a public preference for organisations that choose to communicate in plain English.

Thanks to the Awards, organisations are changing the way they write.

The Medical Assurance Society (MAS) was last year’s winner of the Turnaround Award. MAS has replaced their policy wordings with fresh new documents that are reader-friendly and easy to understand and interpret. They believe the new policies will help their members avoid surprises at claim time. They also think their efforts will help to renew trust in the insurance industry.
