Support the ARO Project
Climate change and environmental degradation are youth issues. The impacts of these are felt unequally across communities, and across time. Our young people will inherit a world with significant environmental challenges that they have contributed very little towards. At the ARO project we believe that the act of mitigating these problems should resource and empower the communities and people who will be at the frontline of this crisis. We aim to locate, equip and sponsor environmental offset programmes that bring about community development and practice good youth development.
At the ARO project we note that the cost of compliance is currently very high for certifying offset projects for carbon credits. We want all money raised to go to the projects that we support and require only that they are independently verified.
Climate change is a youth issue, it is a community issue, and at the ARO project we think that some of the solutions should come from here too. Alongside the goal of operating more sustainably, the ARO project seeks to explore the intersection between environmental issues and youth development.
The initiatives we support are normally coordinated by youth and community workers, or by young people themselves. They seek to improve the local environment while improving the global situation; by planting vegetation to absorb carbon emissions, reducing or recycling waste, restoring a natural ecosystem, or helping a community change a practice that is bad for the environment.
Giving to the ARO project means giving directly to support these initiatives. Our first round of projects includes planting mangroves in Papua New Guinea, sewing cloth bags from scrap material in Fiji, and creating nurseries for mangrove seedlings in Fiji.
Giving to the ARO project means giving directly to the environmental initiatives we support. Our pilot projects are in the Pacific, but in time we hope to support similar initiatives across Aotearoa. More information about current projects, and how their funds are spent can be found on our website.
