Clevedon Protection Society 2017 Incorporated

A Resource Consent is being sought to significantly expand the Clevedon Quarry which will have a devastating impact on the residents of Clevedon, Ardmore, Brookby, Alfriston, Manurewa, Hill Park and The Gardens.

If approved, an expanded quarry will result in over 1300 quarry trucks per day operating on local roads between 6am and 9pm, Monday to Saturday. This will create significant adverse effects including noise, dust, vibration and traffic safety issues due to increased quarry truck numbers. It will also result in a significant loss of amenity and rural lifestyle due to these adverse effects and extended operating hours.

The quarry itself also poses a significant environmental and ecological risk to the adjacent Wairoa River which is Auckland's second longest freshwater river. The consent sought is for an indefinite period of time meaning this is an inter-generational issue affecting the very fabric, future and prosperity of our community.

The application for Resource Consent was heard by independent commissioners in late 2017. The decision released by Auckland Council in early 2018 approved the application with some 141 conditions which do little to provide any relief or protection to the community.

Clevedon Protection Society has lodged an appeal with the Environment Court against the commissioners decision in relation to the application. In order to appeal this decision, Clevedon Protection Society needs to raise a significant amount of money to engage technical and legal experts to represent our community at the upcoming Environment Court proceedings.
