  • The Salvation Army Christmas appeal 2021

      24 November 2021

You are in an extraordinary position to be part of the solution. We invite and encourage you to give that hope again today and consider the immense impact your giving has made, and could further make, for your ‘New Zealand family’. You may never meet them, but they are part of our extended family of 5 million.

For anyone battling tough circumstances, there’s one thing that can turn the tide. And that’s a sense of hope—so precious, so uplifting, so needed. A little bit of hope goes a long way.

So please, this Christmas be part of the difference and choose a gift of hope today and help people feel hopeful again. Selecting a ‘gift of hope’ starts something positive and a little bit of hope goes a long way…

  • Winter can be Rough

      29 June 2021
    Main image

For some, winter can exacerbate existing problems, like financial insecurity, unhealthy homes, mental distress, and addiction.

This was the case for Deroy, who, after reaching rock bottom, received the opportunity to enter The Salvation Army’s Bridge programme, to beat his struggle with addiction. Deroy was celebrating 8 months of sobriety when his two youngest children suddenly came back into his care.

Because of donations from people like you, Deroy and his two children were able to move into a transitional housing unit, before finding their forever home. After being wrapped up in even more of our wraparound services, like financial mentoring, as well as practical aid, Deroy and his children are flourishing.

You can help even more families like Deroy’s by gifting our wraparound services. Your kindness may be needed to meet a temporary emergency, but it’s more likely to pave the road to permanent change in someone’s life.

Thank you for all you have already done. Thank you for all you will continue to do to support those who are in need now more than ever.

  • Red Shield Appeal 2021

      23 April 2021
    Main image

This time last year, Richard and Asina were scared, alone, and sleeping in their car.

This time last year, Rasool had been living on the streets of Henderson for three years.

They all came to The Salvation Army when they were at the lowest points in their lives. But with your help, they soon found permanent accommodation, a new lease on life, and hope for the future.

Now, Richard, Asina, and Rasool all give back to their community, to help those who have found themselves in similar positions.

What a difference a year makes!

We wouldn't have been able to provide they wrap around services that benefited Richard, Asina, and Rasool without donations from supporters like you. So please, support this years Red Shield Appeal, and help those still struggling with the effects of COVID-19. We are the ‘hands’, but you are the ‘power’ in transforming broken lives. Please will you be as generous as you can possibly manage to be.

This year, the gift of hope was needed more desperately than ever before. Normal, everyday people were finding themselves in some of the darkest, most distressing times of their lives.

There were more than 55,000 individuals over the Christmas period who received care and are journeying with us. These are the people your donations are helping.

To see how much of a difference your donations have truly made, read our Christmas Appeal 2020 Report Back by visiting: https://www.salvationarmy.org.nz/back-to-school

  • The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal 2020

      13 November 2020
    Main image

What are you hoping for this Christmas?

The closeness of your family coming together, good food and festive cheer?

Maybe you are hoping to receive a special present.

Or perhaps you just hope you can find a way to care for your young kids over the school holidays while you struggle with two jobs.

Perhaps your hope this year is for a Christmas dinner that’s more than just two-minute noodles.

Perhaps your hope is for peace for your whānau and a chance to put the stresses of 2020 behind you.

For some, Christmas will be a welcome end to a difficult year. But for many, it will mark the first time they have had to reach out for support from the Sallies.

In 2020 we’re asking New Zealanders to share their hope for the future by contributing to our work. Help The Salvation Army restore hope and transform lives. Help us to bring a brighter future. Give the gift of hope.

  • Thank you

We at The Salvation Army would like to say a huge thank you. We have been overwhelmed with the support we have received. In true Kiwi spirit, so many of you have stepped up to help our whānau and responded to those in need.

During the lockdown period, we have helped over 10,000 people who have reached out to the Sallies for the first time. This support has allowed us to provide:

    • 36,689 Food Parcels

    • 91 Budgeting Sessions

    • 717 Clothing, Linen, and Household Packages

We are only able to continue to respond to so many seeking our help, thanks to the ongoing support of our donors.

New Zealanders have a proud reputation of responding to those in their greatest time of need and those experiencing hardship and trauma.

So with all of our heart, Thank you. Because of you, we are here to help.

  • Salvation Army Social Impact Dashboard Report 2

      5 May 2020

This is our second Salvation Army Covid-19 Social Impact Dashboard that monitors and assesses the social impacts of this pandemic, particularly for the poorest and most vulnerable Kiwis.

The results are mixed: on one hand, our Salvation Army 0800 phone number has seen a steady flow of enquiries, mostly for food parcels; at the other extreme, despite these massively trying and uncertain circumstances for many, the generosity of Kiwis has been amazing, with over $1.7 million donated as at 17 April 2020 to our Foodbank Project, which will go directly towards food parcels.
