Nationwide
Sands New Zealand is the national organisation that assists a network of local Sands groups across Aotearoa with resources, funding, and operational support to function effectively.
Sands is a voluntary, parent-run, non-profit organisation that provides meaningful support to parents and whānau who have experienced the death of a baby. Most of our volunteers are also bereaved whānau.
We offer empathy and understanding to bereaved parents and whānau whose baby or babies have died at any stage of pregnancy, at birth, as a newborn or in infancy. We are a non-judgemental organisation and we provide support no matter how your baby or babies died.
We are not trained counsellors and do not give professional advice, but we do offer an opportunity and environment to share experiences, to talk and to listen.
What Sands offers:
• Sands support information packs
• Support Items
• In person, phone and email contact and support
• Online and in person support meetings
• Facebook support groups
• Baby Loss Awareness Week activities
• Education for health and caring professionals
• Bi-annual Conference for parents, whānau and health professionals
Funds gratefully received will be used for:
1. Providing and developing support information and items for bereaved whānau.
2. Providing and developing memory making items to allow parents to have lasting and tangible memories of their baby to treasure.
3. Provide training to our volunteers that is robust, thorough, regular and culturally safe.
4. Provide education to health professionals to ensure all bereaved whānau receive appropriate and compassionate care.
Our network of Sands groups throughout Aotearoa are run on the goodwill of people who give their time and energy voluntarily – we are not a government funded organisation, and do not have any paid staff. We operate through donations, grants and fundraising activities. Any gesture of support is greatly appreciated.
