Help support us provide a high quality and accessible camp where students can learn about Northland's native forest.
Northland
The Tangihua Lions Lodge is a camp positioned in the heart of Northland's Tangihua Ranges; 3,000 hectares of Department of Conservation land.
The lodge is operated as a non-profit charitable trust. Our objective is to provide an affordable space for schools and other student groups to host camps and educate students on the wonders of Northland's native forests and the importance of protecting them. The Lodge as been operating for over 37 years and in that time over 30,000 students and other guests have had the unique experience that comes with being in the Tangihuas.
After nearly forty years of use the Lodge buildings are in need of an upgrade. In 2024 we replaced a range of equipment and upgraded the plumbing to significantly increase the pressure in the showers. Last year we finished upgrading the bathrooms, replaced the carpets, upgraded the furniture and replaced the roof over the bathrooms and decking area. The total cost of this was over $170,000 and we are very grateful to the organisations and individuals who sponsored us and the volunteers who gave their time.
This year we aim to continue our upgrades by tidying up the kitchen area and replacing and enlarging the old deck that is seriously showing its age. We would also like to provide a shade sail or two to make the deck more user friendly in the hot summer months.
Creating a high quality and accessible education center for students to learn about Northland's unique native forests and why it is so important to protect them.
