  • We love a happy ending! ❤️

One April Friday night, a member of the public posted a desperate plea for help after they found a kitten that had an awful lice/flea infestation & was so boney they were afraid it was near death.

SPCA was unable to help until Monday but they weren’t sure it would last that long. Our South Taranaki team stepped up and a fosterer rushed out to pick the kitten up & took him straight back for urgent care. He was syringe fed electrolytes every two hours & spoon-fed pureed kitten food. He was so dehydrated he struggled to eat. The fosterer named him Coal.

Coal survived the night & was whisked off to the Vets4Pets the next morning. The vet confirmed that if he hadn’t been picked up the night before he would have died – Monday was too far away to get the attention he required.

Our fosterer posted Coals story on the TAPT facebook page and the public generously donated approx. $300 for his care. He required hospitalisation for 3 days. He treated for fleas/worms/lice, and tested for FIV, FELV & Parvo. He was put on a drip due to his dehydration & had chalky brittle teeth removed - a result of malnourishment. When he got ‘home’ he needed to gain weight to get him up to the weight he should have been – this took some time, but the fosterer was able to watch the tiny hopeless bundle they collected grow & get stronger every day.

In June Coal was advertised for adoption as an awkward but cute little monkey used to children and dogs. At the end of June Coal went to his furever home ❤️

  • 18 June 2023 Update

Stats for the previous 4 weeks:

    127 cats/kittens in TAPT care

86 vet visits with approximately 120 cats being treated/desexed/vaccinated.

    58 adoptions

TAPT fosterers a still working tirelessly to care for the cats and kittens in their care. All the cats and kittens in care come from a wide range of situations and all need differing levels of attention, compassion and love.

Adoption events are being held regularly and we are ecstatic with how many of you are opening your homes and hearts to a cat/kitten who deserves a second chance to live their best life.

While we had a large number of adoptions, TAPT fosterers are still stretched to capacity and the trust have had to turn away many requests for help. If you are in a position to be able to help us increase our capacity by becoming please go to our website and complete a foster application form. https://www.taranakianimalprotectiontrust.co.nz/

The support we received from the community in the way of donations, adoptions, and even just sharing our posts continues to be extremely humbling and we can not express how thankful we are.

So now that kitten season is winding down we are going into full trapping mode and trying to trap as many feral, stray cats we can. To do this we need help to purchase more traps, at the present we only have 4 to service the whole of Taranaki. Please give generously if you can so we can work with the community to help these vulnerable animals out.

    Thank You So Much

  • Kitten Season 19/20

This kitten season just been we have seen almost 200 kittens and 20 Mumma cats come in... Some of the Mumma cats where returned to their owners desexed, where most others so far have been rehomed into loving homes. We still have about 30 kittens remaining in foster care over Taranaki during the lockdown time, so these guys and gals will be available as soon as lockdown is over.

Due to the volume of kittens in over the last 4 months we still have a massive vet bill to cover. So any help would be wonderful.

    Thank You
