Please help us secure the future of little blue penguins in Tasman Bay, New Zealand, through advocacy, education, rescue & rehabilitation.
Kaiteriteri, Tasman
Please help us protect our local little blues/korora by ensuring they have a safe habitat. As the smallest penguin in the world, they're very special, but they are struggling. Their official DOC conservation status is: at risk/declining.
We undertake penguin advocacy with local and central govt for improved wildlife legislation and planning strategies; build nest boxes; raise community awareness through media articles, signage website, social media etc.
Emergency response is a very important aspect of our work. As threats increase, more emergency resource is needed. We have an experienced DOC-permitted rehabilitator who is dedicated in rehabbing little blues & other native fauna, providing support to injured and sick penguins and other native fauna with veterinary care as required.
We organise predator control and trapping, deliver educational opportunities, collaborate with the scientific community to help improve the overall knowledge base of little blues and the eco system they live in.
The current focus of our fundraising is to enable an upgrade of our rehab facilities. This will become increasingly important as climate change and local threats increase the number of penguins requiring rescue and rehabilitation.
We also need additional field kit such as trail cameras, a burrow scope, trapping supplies etc. to enable us to monitor penguin and predator activity.
Our purpose is to preserve, protect and enhance our local population of little penguins and their habitat. We provide nest boxes, undertake predator trapping, nest monitoring, emergency response to injured or sick penguins with rehab services.
Hi Helena, happy birthday!! I hope you had a fabulous celebration. Thank you so much for thinking about the blues and your kind donation to support our conservation work. We are currently focusing on purchasing more trail cameras to assist us in our monitoring, especially during the busy breeding season. This is a great help! All the best for your 30's and thank you! Kind regards Linda
Thank you so much for your generous donation. This will help us provide rescue and rehabilitation services for injured and sick little penguins in our local area. We appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Hi Quinn, thank you so much for your special gift to the little penguins. Your kind donation means a lot and will help us keep the little penguins safe. It's wonderful that your donation was a birthday gift, so thank you to your friend as well. Best wishes, Linda
