Please help us secure the future of little blue penguins in Tasman Bay, New Zealand, through advocacy, education, rescue & rehabilitation.
Kaiteriteri, Tasman
Please help us protect our local little blues/korora by ensuring they have a safe habitat. As the smallest penguin in the world, they're very special, but they are struggling.
Their official DOC conservation status is: at risk/declining.
Our activities include:
* penguin advocacy with local government and conservation agencies for improved wildlife legislation and planning strategies
* building and deploying nest boxes to create safer breeding sites
* raising community awareness through media articles, signage, website, social media etc.
* emergency response is a very important aspect of our work, providing support to injured and sick penguins in collaboration with DOC-approved vet
* predator control and trapping to create a safer environment
* delivering educational opportunities to groups and students
* collaboration with the scientific community to help improve the overall knowledge base of little blues and the eco system they live in
* organising community beach clean up to create a safer environment for local wildlife
The Tasman Bay Blue Penguin Trust holds a DOC Wildlife Act Authority for the Tasman Bay coastal area.
Our purpose is to preserve, protect and enhance our local population of little penguins and their habitat. We provide nest boxes, undertake predator trapping, nest monitoring, emergency response to injured or sick penguins with rehab services.
Many thanks for supporting our work with rehabbing the blues. Very much appreciated.
