Tasman Bay Blue Penguin Trust

Please help us secure the future of little blue penguins in Tasman Bay, New Zealand, through advocacy, education, rescue & rehabilitation.

Kaiteriteri, Tasman

Please help us protect our local little blues/korora by ensuring they have a safe habitat. As the smallest penguin in the world, they're very special, but they are struggling. Their official DOC conservation status is: at risk/declining.

We undertake penguin advocacy with local and central govt for improved wildlife legislation and planning strategies; build nest boxes; raise community awareness through media articles, signage website, social media etc.

Emergency response is a very important aspect of our work. As threats increase, more emergency resource is needed. We have an experienced DOC-permitted rehabilitator who is dedicated in rehabbing little blues & other native fauna, providing support to injured and sick penguins and other native fauna with veterinary care as required.

We organise predator control and trapping, deliver educational opportunities, collaborate with the scientific community to help improve the overall knowledge base of little blues and the eco system they live in.

The current focus of our fundraising is to enable an upgrade of our rehab facilities. This will become increasingly important as climate change and local threats increase the number of penguins requiring rescue and rehabilitation.

We also need additional field kit such as trail cameras, a burrow scope, trapping supplies etc. to enable us to monitor penguin and predator activity.
