Taupaki School Terri Stunell Scholarship

  • About the scholarship

      9 September 2014

In 2012 we lost a valued colleague, loved teacher and great friend. Terri Stunell may have been a teacher here for only three years but she has left us with many memories that always bring a smile to our faces. Terri loved the outdoors, she loved adventure, she loved sport, she loved teaching, she loved her friends and she loved her family. Students from Terrifs first class in 2009 could spin some stories of the craziness, the fun and the learning. In 2012 we announced that we had set up a scholarship fund to honour the impact that Terri had on all our lives. The Terri Stunell Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating student of Taupaki School. It will allow them to attend a 10 day voyage on either the Spirit of Adventure or the Spirit of New Zealand. In the inaugural year of the scholarship (2013), the criteria for selection was that the recipient was in Terrifs first class. They also needed to exemplify the characteristics that Terri valued. There after the student need not have been in Terrifs class to receive the award. In 2013 we awarded Two Scholarships to recognise its inauguration. Jenny and Owen Stunell presented the awards to the inaugural recipients. Nell Philip and Harlan Rooke-Tariau. In order to ensure that we can continue the opportunity in perpetuity we would need a bank account balance of $37 511. This would ensure that the trip each year could be funded by the interest of the investment. We thank Owen and Jenny Stunell for kicking off the account with $2000. Your donation will help us reach this goal. Again thank you in helping us to honour a very special teacher, colleague and friend. We know that this is a great way to remember Terri.
