The Tawa Community Patrol is a voluntary organisation helping to make Tawa an even safer community.

  Wellington Local Emergency Prevention Volunteering

The Tawa Community Patrol was established in 2008 and acts as the 'eyes and ears' of the New Zealand Police. Our aim is to provide a highly visible presence to prevent and report crime and promote safer communities. We have grown to over 40 volunteer members who are all locals of diverse backgrounds, ages and skills.

We operate both day and night patrols - currently providing the community with over 1,000 patrol hours each year. Our uniformed patrollers use our marked vehicle to patrol, or maintain a visible presence on foot, interacting with the public during weekdays and at nights as required. Our patrol territory includes Tawa, Linden, Grenada North, Kenepuru and Porirua CBD areas - and sometimes beyond! We also put our patrol car on the road during civil emergency events such as extreme weather and other natural disasters, primarily to check on the safety and well being of local residents and businesses. We are often tasked by Police to join search and rescue events within the Wellington region if they require further assistance.

The Patrol maintains strong working partnerships with the Kapiti-Mana Police District, Wellington City Council, Tawa Community Board, the local community and is affiliated to our national organisation - Community Patrols of New Zealand (CPNZ).

Your donation through Give-a-little will come directly to us and will go towards general operating expenses. We thank you for your kind support.

More about us

The Tawa Community Patrol is a voluntary organisation helping to make Tawa an even safer community.

The Patrol acts as the 'eyes and ears' of the New Zealand Police and aims to provide a highly visible presence within the community to prevent crime and protect citizens.

The Patrol was established in March 2008 with a focus on community safety and crime prevention. We have grown to over 40 members who are all local people with diverse backgrounds, work experience and skills.

The Patrol operates during both the day and night. Day members patrol during weekdays and night members patrol on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Members use our distinctive car to patrol the wider Tawa community or walk around interacting with the public.

The Patrol has close working partnerships with the Police, Council, local community and is affiliated to Community Patrols of New Zealand. We also receive regular support from our sponsors and the business community.
