Tawa Community Patrol

Tawa Community Patrol

We are a dedicated volunteer organisation, acting as the eyes and ears of the Police, committed to creating an even safer community in Tawa.

Wellington

At the heart of Tawa, New Zealand, stands the Tawa Community Patrol — a dedicated group established in 2008, acting as the 'eyes and ears' of the New Zealand Police. Our paramount objective is to foster safer communities by providing a highly visible presence, deterring and reporting crime. Our remarkable growth now boasts 45 volunteers, all local residents from diverse backgrounds, ages, and skill sets.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we proudly operate under the name Tawa Community Patrol Charitable Trust (New Zealand Charities Services Registration Number CC29931).

Our commitment knows no bounds, as we conduct both day and night patrols, contributing over 1,300 volunteer patrol hours annually. Our uniformed patrollers employ our distinctive marked vehicle or maintain a conspicuous presence on foot, engaging with the public on weekdays and various evenings. Additionally, we extend our services to include patrols during and after natural disasters and wild weather events as needed.

Our patrol territory encompasses the areas of Tawa, Linden, Grenada North, and Kenepuru.

The Tawa Community Patrol nurtures robust partnerships with the Kapiti-Mana Police District, Wellington City Council, Tawa Community Board, and the local community. We proudly stand affiliated with our national organisation, Community Patrols of New Zealand (CPNZ).

With an unwavering commitment to safeguarding our community, the Tawa Community Patrol stands steadfast, ensuring a secure and harmonious environment for all.

Your contribution will directly support our general operating expenses. Your kindness and support are deeply appreciated. Thank you for making a difference!

More about us

The Tawa Community Patrol is a voluntary organisation helping to make Tawa an even safer community.

The Patrol acts as the 'eyes and ears' of the New Zealand Police and aims to provide a highly visible presence within the community to prevent crime and protect citizens.

The Patrol was established in March 2008 with a focus on community safety and crime prevention. We have grown to over 40 members who are all local people with diverse backgrounds, work experience and skills.

The Patrol operates during both the day and night. Day members patrol during weekdays and night members patrol on various evenings throughout the week. Members use our distinctive car to patrol the wider Tawa community or walk around interacting with the public.

The Patrol has close working partnerships with the Police, Council, local community and is affiliated to Community Patrols of New Zealand. We also receive regular support from our sponsors and the business community.
