Help Us Grow the Next Generation of Rangatira
Every year we meet incredible tamariki and rangatahi who simply need an opportunity.
Some arrive at camp nervous, unsure of themselves, and disconnected from the world around them. Over just a few days in te taiao, something begins to change. They learn to work as a team, overcome challenges, build confidence, develop practical outdoor skills, and discover strengths they never knew they had.
For many, it's their first time sleeping under the stars, lighting a fire, harvesting kai, or experiencing the "turning their minds off" when being immersed in the ngahere. By the time they leave, they're standing taller, believing in themselves, and excited about what they can achieve next.
Unfortunately, not every whānau can afford these opportunities.
That's why we've created this Givealittle page.
Every dollar donated goes directly towards delivering our annual **Whānau funded Camp**, giving more tamariki and rangatahi from across Tairāwhiti and surrounding regions the chance to experience Bush Kura, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Your generosity helps cover essential costs like transport, food, camping equipment, safety resources, and programme delivery. More importantly, it gives a young person the opportunity to reconnect with te taiao, build lifelong skills, and discover their potential.
This campaign will remain open year after year, with every donation helping us grow this special annual camp and create opportunities for even more young people.
Whether you can give $5, $50, or simply share our story, you're helping shape the next generation of confident, resilient leaders.
**Together, we can turn today's rangatahi into tomorrow's rangatira.
Ngā mihi nui for standing alongside our kaupapa.**
Kia ora whānau,
Te Kura-a-Wao Charitable Trust, better known as The Bush Kura, is a Tairāwhiti-based charity dedicated to reconnecting tamariki, rangatahi, whānau, and communities with te taiao through hands-on outdoor education and kaupapa Māori values.
We believe some of life's greatest lessons are learned in the ngahere. Through our camps, workshops, and community programmes, participants develop confidence, resilience, leadership, practical bush skills, and a stronger sense of identity and belonging. Every experience is designed to create positive pathways while strengthening the connection between people, culture, and the natural world.
Our programmes are accessible to all, with many heavily subsidised or provided free of charge thanks to the generosity of our supporters, funders, volunteers, and donors.
Every donation—big or small—helps us remove barriers for whānau, provide life-changing experiences for our rangatahi, and ensure more people can discover the confidence and wellbeing that comes from reconnecting with te taiao.
Together, we're growing the next generation of kaitiaki and leaders - from Rangatahi to Rangatira.
