Te Rangatahi Tumanako provides mentoring and support for young people through a dedicated activities and events program.
Canterbury
Te Rangatahi Tumanako Trust provides mentoring and support for young people through organised activities and events. We continue the good work being done through existing rehabilitation programs by creating a network of positive people engaged in healthy activities. Our goal is to develop hope in the young people we work with and guide them into positive and productive lives.
The core of the program is a weekly activity/event that is available for all participants to attend as often as they are able. Groups are also given the opportunity to enter and train for outdoor events including Motatapu mountain bike race, Coast to Coast multisport race and Christchurch Marathon. Regular activities create healthy habits, therapeutic opportunities in a non threatening environment and the opportunity to build positive relationships with others.
Given our success to date, we have an increasing demand from Department of Corrections and community organisations to take more young people into the program. We are raising funds so that we can commit to more young people, which means more activities, events and mentors. Within the next 2 years our goal is to have 2 fulltime mentors running the program, which we estimate will cost $200,000 per year.
Te Rangatahi Tumanako Trust (The Youth Hope Trust) was established in August 2015 with a vision to help guide young people into hopeful and fulfilling lives. The Trust provides mentoring and support for young people to guide them through difficult points in their lives utilising the unique background and skills of Reon Nolan.
