Tokoroa, Waikato

It is a sad reality that women and children in New Zealand are safer walking the streets alone in the dark, than they are in their own homes.

One in three women in New Zealand has been a victim of family violence and in 50% of cases where women are murdered, an ex or current partner is the killer.

Te Rau Āwhina works alongside wahine, tamariki and whānau who are experiencing family violence. Our kaupapa involves working collaboratively with clients to secure safety and plan for a violence-free future.

Our services include:

- Safe housing

- Advocacy and support

- Risk assessment

- Safety planning

- Goal plannng

- Outcome measurement

- Education programmes

- 24hr crisis response

We provide both crisis and long term support where no appointments are required. This includes whole of whanau services involving advice and information for friends, family, employers and others who are concerned about the safety of women and children in their homes.

We provide education and empowerment programmes for women, parenting programmes for whana, specialist programmes for children and immediate access to legal support in obtaining Protection and Parenting Orders.
