Te Rauhii is a charitable organisation providing FUN and FREE music education in the Waikato!
Waikato
Te Rauhii is a not-for-profit organisation that delivers inclusive and freely accessible music education to communities of high deprivation. Through group music-making, the programme seeks to empower, educate and enrich the lives of children, young people and their whaanau, inspiring them to be active citizens and agents of social change.
The Community Choir engages students in choral singing, a variety of instruments including drumming, xylophones and ukulele, folk dancing, and storytelling through music. With a large number of students from a variety of backgrounds actively participating in the classes, our students are able to expand their musical knowledge, as well as increasing cooperation and social skills.
Our String Scholarship stream offers students the ability to learn violin or cello from some of the most highly skilled tutors in Hamilton. Our string students engage in weekly one-on-one practical lessons, group music theory lessons, and sit internationally recognised exams.
While the students gain confidence in their own abilities as they progress through their musical education, the ensemble aspect encourages the students to work collaboratively as part of a wider community. The environment fostered by Te Rauhii instills values of kindness, respect, and trust, actively contributing to the development of healthy and stable families, increasing community participation, pride in themselves and their community, and intergenerational learning.
