Help Tāne Find Hope – Support Te Whare o Wana
Tony never thought he would need help. A hardworking father, he kept quiet about the emotional and physical abuse he endured at home. He feared no one would believe him. When he finally reached out, he found that no refuge existed for men like him. He had nowhere to go.
That’s where Te Whare o Wana stepped in. We provided Tony and his children with a safe place, support, and the tools to rebuild his life. Through culturally grounded counselling, group programs, and practical life coaching, he began to heal. He reconnected with his tamariki, regained his confidence, and found hope again.
But Tony’s story is not unique. One in eight tāne report experiencing harm from a partner, yet there is no dedicated male refuge in Aotearoa. Many suffer in silence, with nowhere to turn. Wana is here to change that.
We are working to establish New Zealand’s male refuge, providing tāne and their tamariki with safety, support, and the opportunity to thrive. With your donation, we can make this a reality.
Your support will help men like Tony escape harm, heal from trauma, and build a better future. Every dollar makes a difference.
