Te Ara Moana

Te Ara Moana

We provide water-based activities, sailing, kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, to children in Porirua. Our kaupapa is Manaakitanga.

Wellington

Te Ara Moana is based in Titahi Bay, on the edge of Porirua Harbour, New Zealand.

We integrate the resources of several organisations to offer water activities, with a particular emphasis on Manaakitanga,

We catch them while they are at school, so when they are old enough to own boats they will have developed some wisdom.

We are surrounded by lower-income neighbourhoods, so for most courses we don't charge participants. Our generous sponsors and donors help with the funding.

We get them to have fun, and challenge them too. We hope they will go on with challenging sports and activities.

(That's because we want a vibrant and active community.)

More about us

Te Ara Moana is a trust I'm working for and involved in, check out our Facebook page and web page for more info.

We provide a holistic approach to learning using the water.

We teach sailing, kayaking, water safety, environmental issues

Fishing, diving and hunter gathering, team work and social responsibility. That's the short version.

Our target market is local, as we are surrounded by water,

So Titahi Bay Intermediate, and Mana college are the kids we target. Many have never experienced these opportunities. its a buzz for me to see the share delight in their faces when they catch a big fish, or they heel out on a sail boat screaming with laughter. many of these kids cannot swim, but that doesn't stop them with a life jacket and whanau around to support them.

We get funding for our life jackets and we volunteer when we can't get enough funding.

But what we can't get funding for is food. Our trust (Pamela) bakes muffins and we have a supply of food for them. We like to just have it there as many are to proud or Whakama to ask

Many come with no breakfast or lunch, we would be irresponsible to put them in the water in this state.

What I am asking for is people whom would support this Kaupapa, an auto payment of any value or a one of donation we could use for food, hot drinks etc.

If your interested please pm me. We are a charitable trust therefore donations are tax deductible

Cheers

Use of funds

food, many children turn up with no lunch and have not eaten breakfast, we would be irresponsible to put them in the water with no food.

we bake muffins and have food for them to help themselves, but this is not sustainable for us to continue baking. So we are asking for money to purchase food (good food) we teach up to 4 days a week.
