Taranaki

The Trust is committed to assist in sustainable community development and well-being in Taranaki and beyond; and to inspire and empower people to protect our communities and natural environment through sustainable techniques – Tiaki Taiao, promotion of kaitiakitanga.

We are raising funds for our project 'Maru Wai Matara – Stream Kaitiaki Project'. We educate, mentor and provide resources for marae and schools in Taranaki to be able to monitor and protect a local waterway of their choosing.

We aim to help find and assist communities to monitor and protect every waterway in Taranaki from the mountain to the sea!

Our first kaitiaki started last winter and spring, 2015:

- Rahotu Primary School – Rautini Stream

- Te Pi’ipi’inga Kakano Mai i Rangiatea Kura Kaupapa – Mangaotuku Stream

- Parihaka Pā – Waitotoroa River

- Puniho Pā – Matanehunehu River

In 2017, we hope to bring this kaupapa to more marae and schools. Please support us to continue this crucial mahi for our awa.
