The trust thrives solely on the goodwill of our volunteers, sponsors, and financial supporters who contribute to the upkeep of our boats and the educational opportunities we offer.
Founder John Street’s commitment to acquiring and restoring our maritime history for the educational benefit of the public and young people and presenting them in an active on water manner is unmatched around the world. In 2021 John passed the leadership of the trust to the current board of trustees who continue to deliver on his vision.
Our fleet of six classic yachts, most dating back to pre-1900, is on permanent public display at Auckland’s Heritage Landing and the NZ Maritime Museum. These yachts are available for all to view and experience on the water.
A vibrant community has grown around the fleet including:
• Volunteer trustees, skippers, crew, and maintenance teams
• The “Friends of CYCT”, who regularly contribute financially to support the fleet
• Youth who travel to Motuihe Island through our partnership with Auckland Council Sustainable
Schools, DOC and the Motuihe Trust
• Spectators who admire the fleet as they grace the harbour
• Thousands of enthusiastic followers and contributors, from around the world, who engage with us
on social media and delight in the stories in classic magazines
There are no paid employees in the trust ensuring that every donation goes directly to boat maintenance or the community learning opportunities we provide.
