The Up-Cycles Charitable Trust

Up-cycling, up-skilling, up-lifting and changing lives, one bike at a time!

The Up-Cycles Charitable Trust (Ref: CC61680) was born out of a passion for riding bikes and decades of experience in all corners of the bike industry.

I know cycling, all its benefits and understand how to fill the gaps for those who are less fortunate and may not have the same opportunities that others have.

We have members of our community (children, young people & adults) who don’t have the capability to own or ride a bike. Those gaps maybe for reasons such as socio-economic, health & wellbeing, transport to school or work requirements, wanting to try cycle sport for the first time, or are a migrant or refugee who may need a hand-up…. And that’s my philosophy…’it’s a hand-up not a hand-out’.

The Up-Cycles project was formed to close those gaps and provide refurbished donated bikes to those in need. My preference is to distribute the bikes through official organisations and I have already been able to provide bikes to those in need through a number of social service organisations and schools.

There is so much more that could happen such as the NZTA BikeReady programme, bike safety & skills education, Community Bike Ambassador courses, promoting sustainable transport and waste reduction, and the transfer of skills i.e. teaching people how to look after their bikes or creating interest in working in the bike industry……’Changing Lives One Bike at a Time!’

More about us

We are based near Alexandra in Central Otago and refurbish and adapt donated bikes to pass onto those less fortunate or in need. We deliver cycling education programmes to a range of participants in our region, from children to adults.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
