We run jewellery-making workshops throughout NZ for people experiencing illness, trauma and loss.

Donations like yours are important to CanBead as they allow us to plan ahead with confidence, ensuring that we can keep providing people experiencing illness, trauma and loss, and their support networks, with a creative outlet in a supportive environment.
Art therapy is used in a number of different community settings, including in work with children, adolescents, adults and the elderly who may be experiencing any of the following: acute or chronic illness, anxiety, depression, family violence, grief and loss, substance abuse or addictions, mental illness, social and emotional difficulties related to abuse, eating disorders and many more.
We are thankful to offer the service of Art Therapy to our participants through our varying beading workshops.
About us
CanBead gives back to those affected by illness, trauma and loss. We hold free art therapy workshops, where we teach participants to create jewellery as a beautiful form of distraction.
CanBead is funded by donations and grants.
Use of funds
Reaching more participants throughout NZ, we currently have 6 regions but would love to expand our online services to reach those we cannot.
At the age of 28, our founder, Sarah Clifford, received jewellery-making supplies from a friend while she was undergoing treatment for melanoma. During her treatment, Sarah created one necklace each day. These necklaces were auctioned off, with the proceeds benefiting The Cancer Society and a portion allocated to launching CanBead. From small beginnings, great ideas can flourish.
We are a registered charity that provides support to those who are experiencing illness, trauma, and loss through the use of art therapy. Our choice of therapy is beads.
Our 7 regions are fully dependent on the generosity of donations and our funders.
All funds raised go directly towards our workshops providing positive impacts on people throughout New Zealand.
Going strong! 22 June 2023
Hi all, Canbead is still going strong, with us yearly increasing the output of our workshops around New Zealand.
The onset of Covid 19 helped us become online facilitators as well as in person. Having managed to do this successfully it can now be used for locations that are hard to reach.
You will be pleased to know we are now in Southland, Otago, Mid and South Canterbury, Wellington region and Hawkes Bay.
