Toimata is the national hub for Te Aho Tū Roa and Enviroschools. Our focus is to bring about sustainability through learning and action.
Nationwide
Grounded in indigenous knowledge and a holistic action-learning approach, Toimata supports the passion and innovation of children, young people and communities to design and co-create a more sustainable, peaceful and equitable world.
Toimata is committed to working with a large network of partners so that people of all ages can work together to take creative action, to feel empowered, motivated and hopeful - about their lives and the future of our planet. Your donation will help us to support our growing network of participants.
We have two programmes:
TE AHO TŪ ROA: A programme in te reo Māori working with kōhanga/puna reo, kura, wharekura, iwi, Māori organisations, business and communities that celebrates Māori culture, language and wisdom and seeks to deepen and strengthen connections - 'People to People' and 'People to Place'. https://www.teahoturoa.org.nz/
ENVIROSCHOOLS: An action-based education programme in early childhood centres and schools where children and young people plan, design and implement sustainability projects and become catalysts for change in their families and wider communities. https://enviroschools.org.nz/
Toimata Foundation was originally formed back in 2003 and was then known as The Enviroschools Foundation. In 2015 we stepped into the name Toimata Foundation.
Toimata is a concept from Dame Katerina Te Heikoko Mataira, evoking ideas of creativity and craft, sustainability and vision. The takarangi design that makes up the Toimata logo depicts all life nestled in the embrace of Ranginui and Papatūānuku and their love that flows from all who have gone before, to us here in the present, and all generations to come.
