Top of the South Neighbourhood Support is part of a nationwide community-led movement that brings people and neighbourhoods together to create safe, resilient and connected communities. We have a membership of more than 6500 households across the region. We work alongside New Zealand Police, Fire and Emergency NZ, Civil Defence and other partners to enable neighbourhoods to improve safety, be prepared for emergencies and support one another so that our communities are great places to live.
Neighbourhood Support groups help members to share information and support each other in tangible ways, such as: developing neighbourhood resilience plans; shopping during Covid-19 lockdowns; welcoming new migrants; and collecting mail when people are away on holiday.
We maintain members contact details on an online database, where they can also record their skills, experiences and needs in case of an emergency. We also provide tips on crime prevention, pass on crime alerts from the police, and provide other resources such as a monthly newsletter, household stickers and street signs.
Being involved in Neighbourhood Support comes in many shapes and forms. Some groups hold regular social get-togethers such as BBQs and street picnics. Other groups have undertaken projects such as tree-planting in local reserves.
Please help us by making a donation so that we can continue to provide our service to the community as well as providing training, workshops and supporting neighbourhood projects.
