  • Creating a Literate Community II 2023

      28 September 2023

It is essential that we take action to improve literacy outcomes for struggling children. If we implement effective, evidenced-based instruction, we can expect MOST children will learn to read well, regardless of their background. Join us to dig into the conversation! This is your opportunity to learn what to teach, how to teach and why you teach literacy using evidence-based instruction. Conference held at the Distinction Conference Centre, Hamilton.

There are a number of factors that can contribute to reading difficulties, including neurological differences, dyslexia, ineffective interventions, and limited access to skilled, qualified educators. This conference will provide information on how to identify children who are struggling to read and explain pathways to ensure they receive the help they need and deserve.

We have many children 8-14 year old children, who, through no fault of their own, are unable to access the curriculum as they cannot yet read and write. This event will be an important step in improving literacy rates for these and most students. Here are some specific ways that we can support children with learning difficulties.

By working together, we can make a real difference in the lives of children with learning difficulties and we encourage you to get involved and help make a difference. If you are new to evidence based teaching methods this will help you navigate your way into a skilled educator for struggling students.

  • Lifting Literacy Rates Conference October 13, 2022

      4 October 2022
    Main image

We will discuss how we can support and teach children with learning disabilities/diversities using explicit, systematic, and sequential teaching of literacy at multiple levels. Facilitated by Mabel Wharekawa-Burt with guest speakers Dr Olwyn Johnston and Natalie Muller we aim to discover how we can best help schools, children and whanau to lift the literacy rates for struggling students. It is crucial that all children are educated in a way that; (a) best suits their learning needs; and; (b) will positively impact their educational journey. You will learn about the past, present and help plan the future for struggling readers who have the potential to be GREAT readers with the correct intervention.

There are children in primary, intermediate and high school who cannot access the curriculum efficiently because they cannot yet read. For 10-15% of the population, the underlying causes of reading difficulties can often be as a result of the neurological differences. Join us to discuss how we can make the best investment for successful literacy outcomes for our children. Full project brief www.tuitrust.com/ourwork

  • Maara Kai Garden to Table Project

      11 May 2021

Growing food with confidence and helping kids grow, nurture, harvest, cook and share fresh food. This on-going project is an extension to the successful Gardening Growing Programme delivered at Moko Club. This project is teaching children the skills they need to grow their own vegetables and a way to empower whānau to grow their own gardens and subsidise their food bills as well as eat healthy organic food. We would provide whānau with a planter box, potting mix and a variety of vegetable seedlings to start their vegetable garden, a Yates a booklet of easy to follow gardening information.

  • New Centre Open & Playground for Huntly Centre

      12 September 2016

    Kia ora all!

Thanks for all your support thus far! Just a quick message to update you all on what we have been up to.

We have opened a new Moko Club Supported Playgroup Centre in Paeroa and things are going great! Moko Club Centres provide a place for tamariki to have fun learning and a sense of belonging for in a playgroup community. The children learn through their relationships with the parents and children at playgroup and the encouragement and support from Moko Club Playgroup Staff.

At our Huntly Moko Club Centre we are looking to build a playground for tamariki to enjoy! This will help to extend their abilities and confidence through play, as currently the children have limited resources. Playgrounds provide crucial and vital opportunities for children to play. There is substantial research showing the clear link between play and brain development, motor-skills, and social capabilities.

Thanks for your support again and look forward to updating you on our progress soon!

    The Tui Trust Team :)
