Help United North Piha Lifeguard Service continue to prevent drowning and serve the community of North Piha beach
Waitakere, Piha
We are rebuilding our home - after 70 years the North Piha Surf Club can no longer meet the operational needs of the United North Piha Lifeguard Service. The rebuild of the North Piha Surf Club aims to create a functional lifeguard base and training facility, that can be shared with the wider community.
North Piha Beach is recognised and one of New Zealand's most dangerous beaches and is less than 60 minutes drive away for 1.5 million Aucklanders.
Our volunteers provide some 5000 hours of service to the community each year from these facilities, just with patrolling the beach. Training, instructing and running this volunteer service would at least double those hours. The facilities are also used by the regionally managed paid lifeguard service, for a further 3000 hours per year.
The education and accommodation facilities will be used outside patrolling times by schools and other organisations for leadership development, environmental and outdoor education programs.
Generous support from Auckland Council, funders and our community have allowed us to start the construction, but we are still nearly $900,000 short of being able to complete the build.
Please email rebuild@unitednorthpiha.org.nz if you would like to support the rebuild in another way.
The United North Piha Lifeguard Service Inc. is a dedicated group of volunteer lifeguards who keep our community and visitors to North Piha, safe on the beach. We also develop junior guards (ages 7 - 14) with skills to become confident in the surf.
