The Upper Hutt Repair Cafe is a registered charity with the Charities Commission number CC58255.
The aim of the Repair Cafe is to encourage repair rather than replace.
Our group fills that knowledge gap within our community of what to do with an item when something is broken, providing Upper Hutt with viable alternatives to landfill through repair advocacy and education.
We provide a solution for those basic repairs which may not be cost-effective to pursue otherwise, or someone may lack the knowledge to do themselves. Our volunteers help diagnose what is wrong with an item. We will explain how this may have happened and demonstrate a repair. If we can’t help you fix it, we will likely know who could. If it can’t be repaired, we can explain how to recycle it. We will encourage you to have a go when safe to do so and learn as you go!
