Otago

Volunteering Otago relies completely on grants and donations to provide services and programmes throughout Otago. We connect people with community through volunteering and we support organisations that engage volunteers to provide positive volunteering environments for people.

Numerous studies show the positive effects volunteering creates in people, such as longer life expectancy, good mental health, improved confidence and sense of wellbeing, increased skills and knowledge.

Our online searchable database connects people who want to volunteer, with community organisations that need volunteers.

We provide a Supported Volunteering Service to people recovering from mental illness to volunteer as a means of activity based rehabilitation.

In partnership with local schools, we introduce high school students to volunteering through fun, hands on activities.

We provide regular networking and training opportunities for people who work with volunteers.

We celebrate volunteers and volunteering at special times throughout the year.

We also operate Volunteering Central, a division of Volunteering Otago that serves the Central Lakes Area of Otago. Four volunteer hubs are located in Queenstown, Cromwell, Alexandra and Wanaka with a focus on connecting people with local community through volunteering.

We support people and organisations that engage volunteers to create positive volunteering environments, so that volunteers have a positive experience and are encouraged to keep on giving their time and stay engaged with community.
