The Waitaki Community Gardens is a social and educational hub for sharing life skills across age, culture and gender.
Otago
The Waitaki Community Gardens is a pretty special place. We're planting seeds throughout our district, empowering people, supporting growth and doing good.
Some of our projects include:
Kids Growing - a fully integrated schools programme that incorporates gardening, sustainability and coding into the general curriculum.
Working Bees - weekly sessions where volunteers learn to garden, have a little social fun and take fresh produce home.
Veggie Boxes - a community focused veggie box service providing seasonal fresh veg to local businesses and families.
Work Experience - we work with WINZ, Workbridge and local high schools to help people become more work-ready and confident.
Seedling and Herb Tea Sales - we're building on our social enterprise capabilities selling seedlings and herb teas to help support our costs.
Workshops - affordable skill-brokering workshops for people to learn and share knowledge locally.
Our aim is to empower all members of our community with skills to grow and cook their own food. We also endeavour to inspire, value and support young people to become resourceful and resilient adults.

Funds raised will be used to support the Waitaki Community Gardens' educational programmes for local children and adults. We facilitate weekly activities at 14 local primary schools at no-cost to schools or students. Our short courses and workshops for adults are low-cost and highly subsidized. Donations will help offset the costs of staff, tools, educational materials, and garden resources.
