Traditional grants aren't enough to meet soaring demand. We need new funding sources so we never turn away a vulnerable passenger. Help us!
Bay Of Plenty, Whakatane District
We started in 2023 with 1 van and now in 2026 we have 4 vans and complete between 600 and 700 trips per month. For many in our community, we are a vital lifeline. Around 95% of our passengers live with a disability. Because public transport is not an option, our drivers provide door-to-door care, ensuring people arrive safely at medical appointments and supermarkets. But our work goes far beyond essential errands. We fight isolation by keeping people socially connected. We drive seniors to dementia programmes, volunteers to weekly roles, and friends to morning tea. These moments keep vulnerable people well, engaged, and part of our community. To meet this exploding demand, we brought on more caring drivers and expanded our fleet with a mobility van and a HiAce, thanks to Trust Horizon and the Lion Foundation. Recent operational funding covered wages, vehicle maintenance, and safety training, ensuring every dollar kept our wheels turning. However, ongoing funding remains our biggest challenge. The period between November and the arrival of new grants is always the hardest. While a generous one-off grant from the Eastern Bay Community Foundation’s Women’s Impact Fund helped bridge the gap this year, we face constant uncertainty. The need keeps growing, and we want to keep saying "yes" to every isolated person who calls. To sustain this vital service and remain a reliable lifeline, we need your urgent support. Please donate today.
