Wakatipu Yacht Club are raising funds to buy six Optimists at a cost $3,300 each ($19,800 total) to enhance the clubs learn to sail program
Wakatipu Yacht Club run a learn to sail program for any interested local kids each Sunday at our club grounds in Kelvin Heights.
The program is run by volunteer members following a program set out by Yachting NZ and places a huge emphasis on water safety.
We’ve run the program for a number of years and it’s rapidly growing in popularity. We have 90 children enrolled in the program and many more on a wait list.
We are currently operating with six optimists, 11 Open Bic's and two 420's Olympic class yachts supported by three safety boats.
We’re becoming a victim of our own success and now urgently require six additional Optimist boats for our newbies to sailing.

Wakatipu Yacht Club sails on Wednesdays and Sundays, with a highly successful kids learn to sail program on Sunday mornings.
Wakatipu Yacht Club is a non-profit organisation and is operated and organised by member volunteers who freely donate their personal time and energy.
