  • Penguin update for 10/11/2014

      10 November 2014

The Fiordland crested penguin breeding season is well advanced now with most chicks ready to fledge and become independent in the next couple of weeks. The blue penguin breeding season is similar and the chicks will be leaving the nest in the next few weeks. Monitoring of both species penguins has taken place this season to develop better understanding of breeding habits and predators. In the coming months, we'll be focussing on delivering our new education resource to teachers and youth leaders and then we'll be planning an exciting foraging study of blue penguins to understand more about time in the ocean and threats there. Your donation can ensure that research continues to inform practical actions to protect penguins and that children grow up valuing the wonderful West Coast wildlife . Thank you!
