“To inspire our community with a landscape of beauty and life"
- Mission statement, Whangarei Quarry Gardens Trust.
The beautiful setting of Whangarei Quarry Gardens provides a quiet respite from the fast-paced lives we all lead.
The transformation of a former stone quarry into a subtropical oasis has been 26 years in the making, thanks to the hard work of dedicated volunteers. The established gardens are a stunning example of the strength of community, land restoration, and beautification of an ex-industrial environment.
The Gardens' focus is to become a hub for the local gardening and environmental community, with a few great spaces available for meetings and workshops. With an emphasis on education, we often have visits from school groups, and encourage our tamariki to share our love of nature, conservation, and caring for our community.
As a non-profit charitable organisation, we rely entirely on donations and grants to purchase plants, to maintain The Gardens, and cover the running costs of the Visitor Centre. By supporting our fund, you can help us develop the 25-hectare Gardens to an even higher standard, such as extending the track at the far side of the lake, maintaining the upper tracks, expanding our specialised plant collections, and sealing all garden paths. Become part of the Quarry community project, and Givealittle today. 🌳🍀❤️
Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former stone quarry in Northland, New Zealand. The Gardens have been bringing people and plants together for over 20 years.
