Help us to bring creative writing workshops and publishing opportunities to more young people.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Our tamariki and rangatahi are abrim with ideas, experiences and imagination. Write On opens up a world of writing and publishing so that these ideas become words on the page that satisfy the writer and impact others. Creative writing has been shown to have a strong impact on well-being but for young people in under-resourced communities writing and publishing experiences are difficult to access. Help us change that.
Belonging to a supportive community of writers allows opportunities for young people to share, listen, discuss and refine ideas. Writing becomes both a tool for wellbeing and a means to wellbeing.
At Write On School for Young Writers, our approach recognises each child's unique voice as we help them to redraft and shape their words with guidance from writing mentors.
Write On is committed to publishing young people's writing across several platforms including our magazine and dedicated website www.writeonspeakout.org.
“Write On is a place where you can express yourself through both your writing and the discussion that follows, where there is no fear of judgement.” X. age 16
“This workshop was really important it helped to unlock another level of myself and I can finally express myself through words.” T. age 13
“I loved being able to write what I wanted and to make it as weird as I wanted.” K. age 10
“I really enjoyed making new friends, the kindness of everyone – THIS WAS AMAZING (not lying). Now I know how to do my writing. I LOVED IT!” R, 9
At Write On we guide and support young people aged 6-18 to develop their ideas through writers' workshops and we assist them in publishing their work across a range of platforms including print, online and on air.
