Yaldhurst School Tōtara Tūkaha

Yaldhurst School Tōtara Tūkaha is a small, semi-rural Primary School (Years 1-8) in Yaldhurst, Christchurch.

We are fortunate to have a school pool which has provided a safe, inclusive space for children to learn life-saving water skills and to enjoy healthy, active fun since its opening in 1896. Not many primary schools are fortunate to still have a school swimming pool on their grounds. Standing as one of the oldest in Christchurch, our much-loved pool is in urgent need of upgrades and improved ongoing maintenance.

Water safety is vital: In a country surrounded by the sea, learning to swim is vital. Our school pool gives all children the chance to learn water safety skills in a safe and supportive setting.

The pool is currently used predominantly by our school students; however, the proposed upgrades and maintenance would also mean we could open to community members during the summer months. Not all families can afford private swimming lessons or access to public pools. Our school pool enables every child, regardless of background, the same opportunity to learn to swim.

We would love to be able to invest into items such as a Chemical controller, heating system, and pool cover, just to name a few.

The costs for a pool are ongoing & we need to be able to raise funds to make these improvements to ensure our pool can remain open for the foreseeable future.
