A huge and sincere thank you to all who have donated so quickly and generously. We cannot express our gratitude to you all.
A couple of days ago, our friends at Umbrella Nepal made their way to one of the affected regions and donated basics like rice and water to the Red Cross for distribution.
The need for community support will be ongoing for a long, long time to come.
As the days unfold so too does the nature of the damage done.
The wave that swept down the river valley was estimated to be between 14 and 30 metres high.
Some towns are under at least 1.5m of mud and silt.
Red Cross figures estimate around 93,000 people in the region have been impacted.
To date over 900 fatalities have been reported.
Up to 4000 people are believed to be missing (NDRRMA figures). Among those unaccounted for are people from around 30 countries.
13 hydro electricity projects have been destroyed. Many in these communities relied on the hydro projects for employment.
Between 10-15, 000 children are estimated to be without access to education with at least 18 schools completely destroyed and a similar amount badly damaged. (UN figures)
Nepal government initial estimates are of NPR 200 billion worth of damage to infrastructure.
