Young Carers NZ is a national programme of Carers NZ, the not for profit supporting New Zealand's 420,000+ family carers.

Almost 8% of Kiwi children and young people (111,383) help to care at home for ill, elderly, and disabled loved ones, and those experiencing a mental illness or addiction.
Young carers are often not recognized for the role they have and the work they do to support others.
Young Carers NZ is led by an advisory group of current and former young carers, who are helping to raise the profile of this invisible community of young New Zealanders and ensure they have access to age-appropriate information, advice, and support.
It is part of a global network of young carer initiatives and works closely with many support agencies in New Zealand.
The youngest member of Young Carers NZ is 7. We often hear from former young carers in their 80s and 90s who wish there had been recognition and support for them when they were children.
Our aim is to ensure that young carers are heard, that their role is recognized and supported, and that they have access to age appropriate support.

Young Carers NZ is a national programme of Carers NZ, the charity supporting our country's 420,000+ family, whanau, and aiga carers.
Almost 8% of Kiwi children and young people under the age of 24 (111,383 of them!) help to care for ill, elderly, and disabled loved ones, and those who are experiencing a mental illness or addiction.
We are building a national database of young carers and working towards offering age-appropriate information, advice and support.
We are also working closely with teachers, schools, counsellors, social workers, needs assessors, and others whose decisions affect the lives of young carers.

Young Carers NZ's Dragon's Den Pitch 6 June! 3 June 2015
YCNZ has been chosen as one of four charities to pitch for crowd funding at The Funding Network on 4 June. Wish us luck!
