SAVE ASHBURTON'S WATER! Help us fight to keep 40 billion litres of our pure deep water!
Canterbury
Bung the Bore Action Group was founded to challenge the Ashburton District Council's intention to sell a block of public land with a consent to bottle 40 billion litres of Canterbury's purest, deep water. Though the sale of Lot 9 to a bottling plant was rejected, the consent to extract 40 billion litres of water still exists. We have asked our council to abandon the consent, and a petition with 40 thousand signatures was presented to them, however, our pleas have been ignored. Our Council have decided to 'keep the consent for future use'. We are prone to drought. We need to protect our deep aquifers from over-abstraction! We intend to challenge this water consent at Judicial Review in the High Court. All funds donated will be used to cover legal costs.
We respectfully ask the people of New Zealand to help us SAVE OUR WATER. In taking direct action we hope to set precedent for other communities whose water is being freely abstracted for export, and lend them a voice for change. We will continue to advocate for better water management and community involvement in all water decisions. We thank you for your support.
